Genesis Half Marathon Training
The spring 2015 half marathon training starts on Sunday, January 11th in Hurricane. Training will last for 10 weeks to prepare for the Bluegrass Half Marathon in Lexington, KY on Saturday, March 28th. Check out the highlight video from the 2012 season.

About the training
Who: For runners with at least six months of running experience. Minimum requirements prior to week 1 is a long run of 6 miles and 15 weekly miles.
What: Training on general principles for endurance training, race specific workouts to develop speed and endurance, and coaching on specific types of workouts like hill repeats, pace intervals, pace runs and aerobic development.
When: Meet for a kick off workshop on Sunday, January 11th at 2:00 and then for three coached group workouts during the 10 weeks. The planned dates are Tuesday January 27th for hill repeats, Tuesday, February 10th for a cross country fartlek, and Saturday, March 7th for a long run done as a progression run. Those dates are subject to change only for undriveable roads.
Where: We’ll meet for the kickoff at First State Bank and for the coached workouts at Valley Park.
Why: For those seeking professional coaching and advice to try their first half marathon or to improve on their half marathon PR. Coaching generally appeals to runners who like structure, discipline and accountability.
Registration includes weekly group coaching sessions, training plans, weekly messages with workout specifics, discounts from partners, and access to two RRCA certified coaches. We’ll also discuss all of the necessities such as nutrition, hydration, and strength training for runners.
